My focus is to work virtually with women age 30 and up. I’ve found this is where the vast amount my experience comes from. If you’re in your 30’s how do you want to look and feel when your in your 40’s and 50’s? The different stages of menopause can affect your body and mind. Getting into a good fitness routine now will make your transition smoother.

Over the years many women confide, “what they used to do to get back in shape doesn’t work anymore.” If you find yourself struggling with hormone issues, you’re definitely NOT alone.

The female body is cyclical and goes through changes as we age. This affects how we train, our muscle growth, and the nutrition our bodies need. I take into account all of the things that happen in a woman’s body that truly affects our health and exercise and emphasizes the importance of training earlier in life to prepare the body for those changes. But no matter what stage you are in, the body of your dreams is absolutely achievable!

  • If you still have your menstrual cycle, you’re premenopausal.
  • Our hormones fluctuate depending on what phase of the menstrual cycle we’re in. In the second half of our cycle (the luteal phase), it is common to experience cravings and mood swings.
  • If you’re having irregular menstrual cycles but also start to experience mood swings, hot flashes and more, that’s the transition period between reproductive and non-reproductive years called perimenopause. This usually begins around age 47, but is also common between 39 and 51 years old, and lasts 4-8 years.
  • Age-related loss of muscle mass begins in the 30’s and accelerates during the menopause transition.
  • It’s important to prioritize strength training and healthy eating during this time to prepare the body for the onset of perimenopause and later menopause when it is harder to build muscle.
  • Weight gain during menopause is more age-related than hormone-related.  Hormonal changes contribute to the redistribution of fat, which equals age-related weight gain is deposited around the internal organs, increasing abdominal obesity.
  • You’re officially in menopause when you’ve gone 12 consecutive months without a period. So you won’t KNOW you’re in menopause until its over! The median age for menopause is 48-52 years old
  • exercise is AWESOME medicine – especially when it comes to menopause!! 
  • Post-menopause is the period after menopause. During this time you may experience physical symptoms like in perimenopause. They may also include psychological symptoms like anxiety, mood swings and depression.
